The Oxford Book Of American Verse by F. O. Matthiessen

The Oxford Book Of American Verse by F. O. Matthiessen lands on the |> SALE <| shelves in my shop.

Oxford University Press, 1950, Hardback in dust wrapper.

From the cover: "A worthy companion to The Oxford Rook of English Verse, this completely new anthology covers, in 571 selections, the whole range of American poetry from colonial times to the present; more than half of it is devoted to the best work of the last fifty years.

Fifty-one poets are represented — deliberately fewer than in most anthologies, so that sufficient space can be devoted to each poet to afford a real understanding of his work. More recent and less well-known poets are represented wherever possible by works of some length rather than by a scattering of short poems.

Brief bibliographical notes at the end enable the reader to know in what volume of the poet's work each poem originally appeared. Mr. Matthiessen contributed a long critical introduction."

Very Good — in Good Dust Wrapper. Dust wrapper edgeworn with some short, untidy tears, and a little scuffed. Edges of the text block lightly tanned. Text complete, clean and tight.

Blue boards with Gilt titling to the Spine & Upper Board. [LVI] 1132 pages. Index. 7½" x 5".

Of course, if you don't like this one there are plenty more available here!
